Network Engineering
Domain Name Servers
Name servers translate internet hostnames into IP addresses. There are two on each campus. Users who hard-code their network configuration are encouraged to use both of their campus servers and a third from another campus. Networked devices that are set to use DHCP to get a their network configurations at startup will automatically get the three nameservers appropriate for the campus they're on.

Network Engineering maintains separate authoritative name servers that provide information about Tufts hosts only. They do not provide information for addresses outside of the zones we are directly responsible for. These hosts are available via a whois.
