Domain Name Servers

Name servers translate internet hostnames into IP addresses. There are two on each campus. Users who hard-code their network configuration are encouraged to use both of their campus servers and a third from another campus. Networked devices that are set to use DHCP to get a their network configurations at startup will automatically get the three nameservers appropriate for the campus they're on.

The authoritative name servers provide information about Tufts hosts, they are "authoritative" for Tufts information only and do not provide information for addresses outside of tufts.edu. If you need this information, please contact Network Engineering.

If you are interested in running a caching name server local to your machine, it should be the first entry in resolv.conf. Please contact Network Engineering for details on how to make it more efficient.
