Domain Name Management

Tufts' Domain Name System (DNS) is maintained by Network Engineering. Because of the high administrative costs of maintaining domain name registrations, we have a long-standing policy of limiting the domains for which we are responsible to "tufts.edu" and "fletcher.edu". We also maintain authoritative name service for "perseus.org" as a grandfathered client, but we provide no administrative support for it.

While we cannot register and maintain a vanity DNS name for you, you are free to register it yourself with the name registration company of your choice (InterNIC provides The Accredited Registrar Directory.) Having registered the domain name, you can configure any hostname within that domain to resolve to the IP address of your server here on campus. This option is used successfully by some groups at the University.
