Configuring DHCP for Macintosh OS X on ResNet
These instructions are a "look under the hood." Your RCC will be happy to provide network installation support or you can bring your computer to a SWAT in the fall.
You will need:
- A NIC, an acronym for network interface card is also known as an ethernet card.
- A line cord, also known as an ethernet cord. This connects your NIC to the wall jack. This is not the same as a phone cord, but usually is plugged into the jack in your room. If it gets broken, contact your RCC or Tufts OnLine at 7-4865.
- An active wall jack. If you aren't sure whether its active, contact the Customer Service Center at 7-5945.
- Update your OS to Mac OS X v10.26. If you need the update from Mac OS X1 to OS X2 - Apple sells the update at a discount.
Configuration:
- Under the Apple Menu
, choose System Preference.
- Choose Network from the View Menu.
- For Location, choose Automatic
- For Show, choose Built-in Ethernet
- Click the TCP/IP tab, if necessary.
- For Configure: choose Using DHCP.
- Click Apply Now.

- Open a Web browser and you should get the Pelican self-registration page. You may self-register your computer on the Tufts Data Network by using your Trumpeter Email Account and Password, then reading and accepting the Responsible Use Policy. If you are authorized to self-register, a second screen redisplays your information and a registration button to click. The last screen advises you to power off your computer, wait 15 mintues and then login.
